The Vision of Escaflowne: Merle

the vision of escaflowne cosplay - merleA childhood friend of Van Fanel’s, Merle was at first extremely jealous of Hitomi as she became closer to Van. Eventually, she learns to accept Hitomi because she recognized Van’s feelings for Hitomi were that of true love. Nevertheless, Merle is devoted to Van and never hesitates to protect him at all costs.

Cosplayer Nemu (ネム) makes a very cute Merle! I’m beginning to miss watching this series more and more now. Thanks to Miyazaki for suggesting this!

The Vision of Escaflowne: Kanzaki Hitomi

the vision of escaflowne cosplay - kanzaki hitomi

A member of her school’s track team, Kanzaki Hitomi has a strong fascination for tarot cards and fortune-telling. She received a set of tarot cards and a mysterious pendant from her grandmother when she was only a small child. Since then, her hunches and tarot readings have been unusually accurate. It was only when she meets Van Fanel and is sent to Gaea that Hitomi learns of the true origins of her pendant, and her connection to Gaea.

Cosplayer Kiryuu Tsubaki-hime (桐生椿姫) is the girl in this photo. I don’t remember what Hitomi’s pendant really looks like, but the one she’s holding looks good nonetheless! Thanks to Fumiki for sending this in!

The Vision of Escaflowne: Van Fanel

the vision of escaflowne cosplay - van fanelThe second son of King Goau and Queen Varie, Van Fanel became the young king of Fanelia when his older brother, Folken Lacour de Fanel, never returned from his test of kingship. Their mother was a Draconian, winged people from Atlantis who were considered to be bearers of bad luck. The brothers were cautioned at a young age against carelessly showing their wings as a mark of their Draconian heritage.

Cosplayer Haduki Youko (葉月ヨウコ) is the girl behind this classic anime character. I remember Van in a similar pose during the ending credits of the series. Thanks to Regan for sharing this!
